They are the first Ugandans straight from home to clinch a record deal with a major record label in the world. UK-based Ugandan singers Da Twinz, Dennis Mugaga and Crazy Dee, are reportedly in the middle of negotiating a deal with EMI Records, based in Kensington, London, UK, to distribute their soundtrack to an upcoming movie.

The movie, Moses Jones, a BBC Films production about African immigrants in the UK, stars Hollywood actor Eamonn Walker and was written by acclaimed film writer Joe Pehall. Apparently, Da Twinz, who, together with other Ugandan singers like Sam Kimuli and Kiberu, appear as a 12-piece African band in many of the movie’s scenes, so impressed Craig Pruess, who was in charge of scoring the movie that he introduced them to management at EMI who agreed to distribute their music.

Pruess has scored such British hit movies like Bend It Like Beckham. We don’t know how much the deal is worth but EMI rarely enters deals less than £1m
